2008 TRAC Tour Regional 2

Another race weekend in the books. We unfortunately had the same transmission issue as last race, so we had to again swap in our trusty spare. Other than that, we had a great day on Sunday. Improved lap times, and we got a chance to get some tire data.

We got an award for 2nd place for GT2 class in the TRAC Tour race.

We also caught a bit of the Unlimited Race with our on board camera.

Quick Update

Nothing significant to report, but we do have the transmission back in the car. We’re ready for the next race on June 22. We fabricated a camera mount, so we’re happy to now have onboard video for post-race analysis, or maybe just for entertainment purposes.

Not very exciting, but here’s some video while we do a quick test of the rebuilt transmission, and of course testing our camera mount.

May 28 MMSC Auto Slalom

We took the Nissan 350Z to the local MMSC Auto Slalom event yesterday and left with FTD (Fastest Time of the Day). It was our first event using our new Jim Wolf Technology clutch and flywheel upgrade. We were impressed with the result. The car has better response throughout the RPMs. The course was a mix of fast slaloms and tight corners, with speeds reaching near 100km/h on the back sections.

Just an update on our gearbox problem last weekend, it seems that our problem is a bad syncronizer.

Shown here is the transmission shifted into 3rd gear and the shift collar gets jammed by the square block that is indicated by the arrow.

TRAC Tour Series Race #1

Our first race weekend at Atlantic Motorsport Park was a success, but not without our share of problems. We only got 3 laps in on the Saturday Test & Tune and our transmission locked itself in 3rd gear. After tearing open the transmission to find hints of our problem, a good friend found us a old rusty gearbox that he had laying in his garage for a few years! With some penetrating oil to free up the bearings and some fresh gear oil after draining the water, we had somewhat of a transmission to get us through Sunday.

We achieved what we wanted on Sunday, which was to test the car and start to learn its limits. We were consistent with 1:22 laps and fast laps of low 1:21, which was better than what we expected on a first weekend with such little seat time.

We started last in the School Race (novice drivers) and were on our way to winning, but on the last lap we had a small spin on the grass, which let the 2nd place driver get by. We finished 6th in the TRAC Tour race.

Anxious for spring

Things have been slow here lately. Its winter after all… We have confirmed our entry into the Test & Tune (May 19) and Race Weekend (May 24-25) at AMP. We’re pretty anxious to bring the cars to the track!

On a side note, Moncton Motorsport Club has been granted the National Autoslalom Championship event which will be held at none other than Slemon Park in PEI. This should be a great event! Competition should be tough, with drivers from all across Canada competing, but we’ll be there, trying to hold our own.

2007 ARMS Auto Slalom Championship Results

The 2007 Season ARMS Auto Slalom Championship results have been released. We came 1st in the B/SS class, and 6th Overall. Its unfortunate that we had to miss the last regional event, but these are still good results for our 1st year in the sport.

MMSC Slalom at Magic Mountain

The fall season for the MMSC Auto Slaloms has started again. Its starting to get cold out and it gets dark pretty early, but it was still a decent turnout for the event. There was a few new cars out, which is always nice to see.

We ended up with a time of 52.498, which was FTD for the evening. Official MMSC results are posted here.

FMC Racing School

We’re back from the FMC Racing School. We are now qualified to apply for a racing license, which we will be doing in May 2008 for next year’s racing season. Huge thanks to all that organized the event, marshals, and hard workers. Big thanks to Mike McCrea for his help and driving instructions.
